Update!

Hey everyone!  I hope you all are having fabulous days!  For today’s post I just thought I’d give you guys a little update on what’s been going on lately.

So the biggest piece of news…. I got a new computer!  Some of  you may recall that I got a new computer in the fall, but I’ve been having major problems with that one, so now I have a MACBOOK!!!!!  I’m super obsessed with it, I’m not gonna lie.  It was pretty difficult to get the store to agree to let me get a new computer, but after much negotiation and time on my part, I got them to agree to refund the money that I spent on my old computer, transfer the tech support that I had, reduce the price on the Mac and on the Mac Office,  and give me free shipping.  Overall, I got a pretty sweet deal, considering they weren’t going to help me out at all.  So I’m loving having the computer, and it’s been great knowing that it actually works properly and has extra bonus programs like iMovie and all of those nice things on it.

I think that’s going to be it for today, if you haven’t checked out my VLOG please do so!  I’ve been vlogging every day this year, and it would mean a lot if you would all take a few minutes to check it out!  Thanks!

Movie Review: Pitch Perfect

If you haven’t seen this movie, then you’re missing out on one of the best movies of 2012.  There, I said it.  Since I got the dvd last week, I’ve watched this movie 7 times.  I can’t help it!  I’m addicted.  Not only does it have super catchy songs, but hilarious one-liners, and absolutely beautiful on the inside and out actors.

I honestly don’t even know how to begin talking about this movie other than the fact that it’s brilliant.  From Anna Kendrick’s performance of Cups (which I continue to attempt to do… and fail) to the Riff Off (my favorite scene) the movie is jam-packed with musical entertainment that will keep you entertained the entire length of the film.

The film, which is about collegiate a capella groups, centers around the Barden Bellas, a group hoping to compete in the national finals at Lincoln Center in NYC after an embarrassing episode at last year’s competition.  But with the newbies in the group (including Kendrick) their prospects of getting there looks pretty bleak.  Add a gorgeous boy from a rival singing group to the mix, some toners (a musical boner, of course), and you’ve got yourself one hell of a movie!

Book Review: Little Women

Having recently had to read Louisa May Alcott's novel Little Women for my Women's Lit class this semester, I thought I'd write a little review on the book and share my thoughts on it with all of you.  Now,  I have read the book before- I was a summer reading assignment for my freshman year of high school, so it's been quite awhile since I'd read the book, and I'd expected my thoughts on it to change a bit.  But nope, I still felt the same way about the end off the book.

First, let's start off with the biggest character transformation of all- Jo.  I can relate to Jo in so many ways- wanting to be a writer, having a temper, having ambitions, etc.  But I always felt that by the end of the book she completely squashed her personality to conform to society's wants and became someone that wasn't her.  She married someone who forced her to stop writing, even after she began making substantial money off of her work, and who I feel is just unsuitable for her.  I'd always kept this little romantic image in my head of her going off and marrying Laurie and the two of them running off to Europe together and being crazy little kids forever.  But instead, she changes into society's version of a 'woman' and that fundamentally changes who she is.

Meg, the eldest sister, ends up happily married, but does not get her rich husband that she'd always expressed desire for.  I think this does show some growth in character as she eventually realizes that perhaps money isn't everything in life as long as one is happy and comfortable.  And she has two adorable children.  I mean, who could beat that?

Now onto Beth.  Despite many peoples' hatred of the Beth character for her meekness, I've always appreciated Beth because I relate to that shyness.  I'm certainly shy and uncomfortable around people that  I do know very well, things that people often mistake for different personality traits, which I think is that case with Beth.  I always dread the moment that Beth dies because it is just so heartbreaking to me.

And lastly, Amy.  Where to begin?  Let's start with her marriage.  I never did think she was deserving of Laurie.  I always took Amy to be conceited and vain- two traits which I completely identify with- but Laurie is too good for her.  With Amy, Laurie is settling for the last March sister- the only one that is alive and would have him.  On the other hand, I do feel bad for Amy.  Amy's art is mocked in the first  part of the novel by the narrator as being sub-par, and when you compare her with her sisters, Amy is just not as talented or intelligent.  The only thing she seems to have going for her are her looks.  But, she is used to getting what she wants, and makes sure that everyone suffers when she doesn't- classic youngest child syndrome.  In my family, I'm the oldest child, and I just can't stand that nonsense.

So there you have it!  If you've never read the novel, I highly encourage you too.  While Huck Finn is considered the great American novel, consider this one to be the great novel for girls to read.  It is a great primer on lessons for young ladies on how to act and how to be good daughters.  And if you have read it, leave your comments and thoughts on it below.  Let's get a conversation going.  I'd absolutely love to hear what you think!

Beautiful People: My latest TV Show Obsession

Have you ever seen the TV show Beautiful People?  It’s an old ABC Family TV show that aired in 2005 and starred Daphne Zuniga, Sarah Foret, and Torrey DeVitto.  It also happens to be one of the shows which gave Jackson Rathbone (Twilight) his big break (other than the OC).

The show, which details the life of single mother Lynn Kerr, and her two daughters Karen and Sophie’s new life in New York City, has become my latest obsession.  I remember wanting to watch the show when it first aired in 2005, but simply didn’t have the time, being a freshman in high school and completely obsessed with other TV shows and completely engrossed in daily high school life.  So now that the show is on Netflix, I finally got my chance.  I’ve been watching the show daily, and I’m hooked.

The show unfortunately only ran for one season, and I’m definitely curious to see which way it will wrap up.  At the point where I am in the show I do not have any idea of the direction it will take, but I am right in the thick of things.  The drama has really set in, bringing in class issues, drugs, career climbing, and old loves.  Not to mention a father who ran away with the eldest daughter’s best friend.  Talk about juicy details!

I admit, the show definitely has a similar vibe to the first seasons of Gossip Girl, so if you liked the beginning of that particular show, than you’d most likely enjoy watching BP.  The show even has its very own “white party,” just as Gossip Girl did, though BP’s take on it is slightly different.  Watch it; you’ll see what I mean.

Overall, it’s a great show.  Though I’m not at the end of the show’s 16 episodes, I feel pretty confident in recommending it to all of you lovely readers out there.  So go ahead, try it out.  And if you do, comment below and let me know what you think of it.  You know I love hearing your thoughts on things!  And if you’re not interested in this show or have already seen it, let me know what shows I SHOULD be watching.  I could use any and all recommendations!
