The Sephora Makeover Experience

If you follow me on Instagram, (allisoncomments) then you already know that I was recently lucky enough to have a makeover done at Sephora.  This was so much fun for a beauty/makeup junkie like myself, and I learned so much from the experience.  In need of some pampering and just a fun day, I used the free makeover that comes complimentary with the upgrade to Sephora’s VIB program.

I went into the whole thing with a few expectations.  I first wanted to find a new foundation that I was going to be able to use on an everyday basis as well as a concealer, as what I’d been using from the high end side of things (MakeUp Forever HD foundation) had been making me feel cake-y, and I’d never tried a real quality concealer.  I also wanted to use this as a learning opportunity and finally learn how to properly do the whole lip-liner thing and wear lipstick – particularly red.  (If you watch my videos, then you know, this is something I’m terrified to even attempt)

The women at Sephora were incredible.  Never have I felt more ‘at home’ in a store before.  They listened to my thoughts and concerns, and taught me well.  I love the products they used on me, and loved the finished look- which turned out to be a sort of modern-day pin-up look.

I definitely did not have a ‘traditional’ makeover experience.  Mainly because I ended up having an artist from URBAN DECAY complete my look!  (only a true makeup junkie would understand how unbelievable cool this was, and would appreciate the fact that I was ready to squeal with delight when they told me they could do this)  This was such a great opportunity, and of course I couldn’t turn it down.

While I had a total face makeover, the three stand-out products were as follows: the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation with SPF 15 in 0 Porcelain, the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in Blissful, and finally, the main event, the Urban Decay lipstick in the color F-Bomb.  I absolutely love all three of these products, and I’ve included close up pictures of all of them below.

If YOU have a chance, or are in the need of a little pampering, try getting your look re-done at Sephora.  It is a super relaxing, fun thing to do by yourself, and FOR yourself (because it’s never a bad thing to spend time taking care of yourself and being happy!) and you can really learn so much from the entire experience.

If you’ve done a makeover at Sephora, or anywhere, let me know about your experience in the comments below – I’d love to hear about it!!!  Or, if you’ve tried out a new look on your own recently, let me know!  And don’t forget to tweet me pictures or send me them on Instagram!

Until next time, Happy Reading,

Allison

DIY Tile Coasters

I’ve been in a crafty mood lately.  First I made some mugs with a friend from MissGlamorrazi’s mug tutorial that was in DIYDecember, and then a few days later, I made these adorable tile coasters with Brittany.  I found this tutorial on Pinterest months ago and added it to my craft board, and finally got the chance to do it, and it was a blast!  I highly recommend trying it out.  It’s definitely one of those art projects that you can do if like me, you’re not an artsy person, but like to try out craft-y things.

*This tutorial is courtesy of thecottagemama.com

Supplies
Square tiles from a hardware store (4.25” x 4.25”)
Pieces of scrapbook paper (3.75” x 3.75”)
Pieces of felt (3.75” x 3.75”)
Mod Podge
Sponge Brush
Glue (Fabri-tac or other strong adhesive)
Clear acrylic sealer

1.     Gather your supplies.
2.     Brush one coat of Mod Podge onto tile.
3.     Place on piece of paper on center of tile.  Allow to dry.
4.     Brush on another coat of mod podge on top of paper.  Allow to dry 15  minutes, and repeat 2-3 more times.
5.     After mod podge is dry, take tiles outside and spray with clear acrylic sealer.  Follow manufacturers instructions.  (The sealer makes coasters water-resistant)
6.     Once coasters are dry completely, glue felt squares to the bottom center of the tile.

Overall, I love the way the coasters turned out.  I think they are super adorable and will definitely add a personalized girly touch to my future apartment.

Just a few tips with the coasters once they’re completely finished (based on my experience so far with them):

1.     Try to avoid hot drinks.  I had a cup of hot tea that tried to stick to the coaster after less than five minutes.
2.     Don’t leave an ice cream bowl on it overnight.  Again, a sticking problem occurred for me and this was a week after I made them, so they were completely dry.

*All in all, avoid extreme temperatures on the coasters.  I’m pretty sure it causes the sealant to loosen of become tacky again and causes problems- potentially ruining not only your creation, but also your glass or dish.

I hope you all enjoyed this little DIY!  Let me know in the comments below if you like this sort of blog post, and if you’d like to see more DIY type posts!  I’d love your feedback!

What’s on My Cell Phone: Part 7

Hey Everyone!
Well, this is it!  This is the FINAL installment of “What’s on My Cell Phone!”  I hope this series has been helpful to all of you and that you have all found some interesting apps for your own phones or devices or that you have all found some apps that you know now you definitely want to avoid!  With that being said, let’s dive right into the last little bits on my phone!

Tools

Best Wallpapers HD: This is by far the best wallpaper app that I’ve been able to find for my phone.  It’s what I am currently using to have my Union Jack background (though as I write this, I think I should switch to something more winter-themed).  The options are great, and the backgrounds all are great quality.

Calculator: This is a basic calculator that is pre-installed on the phone.  Not much to say here, but I have it in my folder for easy access because math is definitely not my strong suit, I’m afraid to admit.

Alarm/Clock: Another pre-installed app on the phone, this is a basic alarm, clock feature that also has a stopwatch and timer.  Pretty useful, but it’s not the alarm I use to wake up every morning.  I still stick with my old clock radio for the morning wake-ups.  I do tend to use my phone alarm when I nap, however.

Maps: I would probably be terribly lost right now without this app.  I am horrible with directions, and since my GPS doesn’t have updated maps, and the charger on it isn’t working properly, I can only thank God that I have a smartphone with Google Maps.  My one complaint?  I wish I could get the navigation voice louder.  But all in all, the directions are clear and concise, and you can even choose your route based on highway, time, etc., all features that were more difficult to do on my GPS.  Basically, this app is a lifesaver.

Play Store
This is the Google version of the Apple App Store.  Not much to say about it other than that.  It’s organized pretty much the same way as the Apple store, by category and you can filter apps, games, etc.  You can also find a ton of free apps and games based on what you’re looking for, which is what I tend to gravitate towards, because I just can’t justify spending $5.99 for a phone game that I’ll be bored with in 3 months.  The one thing that differs from the App store is that not all apps are available in both stores at the same time, which can be a disappointment at times, but if you search you can always find awesome alternatives, often times which are better than your original search.

Help Button
I have never once used this button.  But, it’s purpose is to help new users to the phone with questions regarding the phone’s function.  Now that I say it, I should probably just remove it from my home screen.  Opening the app up, I find how to videos, a my Verizon mobile section, additional guides, and settings for the help section (turning on and off the tips for the phone).  This would be more beneficial if this was your very first cell phone, and had no idea what to do.  While this was my first smartphone, I’d played around with enough of my friends’ smartphones which are similar to mine that I knew the basics prior to even turning mine on so the tips weren’t even necessary for me.

So there you have it!  We’ve now gone over absolutely everything in and on my phone!  I hope you’ve enjoyed this series.  If you have and would like to learn about what is on my iPod touch, let me know and I can get started on that for you!

If you have any questions regarding anything that I’ve mentioned- my phone itself (the LG Lucid 2), my phone case (from Trident), or any of the apps that I’ve mentioned, feel free to leave a comment below or let me know through the blog email or twitter, or any social media site listed to the right.  I’m always willing to answer your questions and help you out!

And, if you have any recommendations on apps for me, don’t forget to let me know!  I’m always looking to check out new things!

Until next time, Happy Reading!
