Hey everyone! For
today’s post I wanted to share some ideas that I utilized in my very own closet
makeover. For those of you who don’t
know, I’ve challenged myself to make changes in my life this month, as a
response to Nikki Phillipi’s “Change it Up September” videos on YouTube.
The first, and most basic step in my closet transformation
was going through all of my clothing and shoes.
I went through things first to check style and look: if there was no way
I’d wear it again, then I got rid of it, no questions asked. The second time I checked things, I tried
everything on to make sure it still looked good on, and didn’t have major holes
or staining. I created a pile of clothing
to sew to fix holes, and piles of things that didn’t fit anymore.
With things that didn’t fit perfectly, or were too tight on,
I packed away in a bin from Walmart and stored it in the basement. Since I’m in the process of working out again
(another post on that soon!), and have been losing weight all summer, there is
a good chance things will begin to fit again.
Storing things away meant that I could hold onto things I want to fit
into again – sort of like creating a goal weight or size.
Once that was done, I also began a GoodWill pile, and
donated a large amount of things to the organization that I no longer wanted or
needed. This way, someone else could
enjoy them!
The next thing I did was clean the shelf on top of my
closet, as well as the floor area. I
organized my shoes on my rack better, got rid of excess hangers, and overall
just made it look pretty again.
The last major thing I did – and I highly recommend this –
is utilizing huggable hangers. These are
extremely thin hangers that make your clothing more compact and enable you to
fit more inside of a closet. I began
using these hangers in my dorm room in college to accommodate a smaller storage
area, and since Target had them on sale this week, I picked up some more. I now have almost all huggable hangers in my
closet and am able to fit twice as much in my closet. If you don’t want to purchase these hangers
at Target, I’ve also found them at places like Marshalls, TJMaxx, and Ross.
(the huggable hangers are the pink, black, and tan hangers that you can see in
the pictures)
So there you have it- my closet transformation. While it may not seem like a huge deal, I
feel much more organized and less cluttered knowing that my closet is
organized. I now know that my clothes
all fit and look good, and donating things that didn’t work anymore just felt
good. I also decided to sell my prom
dresses (eek!), a major thing for me since I’m so attached to them. But, I know I’ll never need them again, so I
should let someone else enjoy them on their own special night.
That being said, I hope you all are having a fantastic day,
and I will talk to you guys again soon!

Change it Up challenge!
