Tag: Dreams

For today’s blog post I decided to do the dream tag that Miss Glamorazzi did with Luke on her vlog channel a few days ago.  Leave in the comments your answers to the questions!  I would love to see read about your own experiences in the dream world!

1.    Do you dream?
Doesn’t everyone dream each night?  I don’t always remember my dreams, but I occasionally do.  Not all of my dreams that I do remember are good dreams though.

2.    What did you dream about last night?
I can’t remember any specific dreams from last night.  The most recent dream that I remember was a dream from the night before Charlie had his surgery (so a few nights ago) and it was just me waiting to hear back from the vet about how the operation went.  Let’s just say when the vet finally called me, I didn’t get good news.  Thankfully, that isn’t what happened in real life!

3.    How many dreams do you usually remember?
I typically don’t remember too many of my dreams.  Probably only a few each month.  And after a few days have passed I usually won’t remember them unless they had a huge significance to me personally.

4.    Do you have a dream journal?
No, and honestly it’s something that I’ve never even considered keeping.

5.    How often do you have nightmares?
Now I don’t have nightmares regularly.  But as a child I did more often.  But I think that’s normal for most people.  I think as kids we are more willing to believe in monsters and things like that and be afraid of the dark so we think about things like that as we fall asleep and then they become part of our dreams which turn into nightmares.

6.    Do you lucid dream?
No, although I think it would be really interesting if I were able to.

7.    Do you dream in color?
Yes, but I wish I were able to dream in black and white occasionally.

8.    Do you dream in first person?
If I am in a dream, then usually I dream in first person, but if I am not in the dream it is in third person, but those are less frequent.  When I dream in third person, those dreams typically end up becoming inspiration for some of my short stories.

9.    Do you have recurring dreams?
No.

10.Have you ever had déjà vu?
Not that I can remember.  But I think people have different definitions of what déjà vu is.

My Grandma is on Facebook

The first time I heard about Facebook, I was backstage at a dance recital changing costumes.  At the time, MySpace was still the major social media site, and I hadn’t even begun to enter into that world.

By the time I got my own Facebook account, it was towards the end of my senior year of high school.  I had wanted one for a long time, but my parents hadn’t wanted me to get one.  Most of my friends had joined by the time I did, although the site’s users were still primarily high school and college kids.

When I went off to college in the fall, family members quickly signed on in an attempt to stay in touch with me not that I was living out-of-state.  Aunts, uncles, some cousins, and of course, Mom and Dad all became part of the Facebook world.  And last but not least, my Grandma signed up.

While many people would have instantly been repulsed at the idea of accepting the friend requests that followed, it didn’t bother me one bit.  What better way to show family and friends pictures of my new dorm room and show them how well I was doing at school?  Especially those people who are unable to visit me at school?  To a new college student living away from home for the first time, Facebook was a gift.  And don’t think I didn’t get a kick out of showing people my 60-something-year-old Grandmother’s perky profile picture and wall posts.

Although the many advantages of Facebook were prominent in the first few weeks of being away, after awhile I was left with a problem.  How much can I actually post online?  How much do I really want my family to see?  Giving my family access to something that many view as a ‘friends-only zone’ means giving them access to personal conversations, pictures, and much more.  So did I make a huge mistake in letting them into that part of my life?  After all, I am entitled to some privacy.  I am an adult, even though they are my family.

In the end, it comes down to one simple thing.  The internet is forever.  What you post online is out there forever.  Sure you can delete pictures off of your wall, or delete a post from a blog, but people can copy pictures and save them onto their own hard drives.  Once something is out there, you have given someone an opportunity to use it against you.  The only way to defend yourself against this is to simply watch what you post.  Don’t put up pictures of you using drugs if you’re not prepared to face the consequences.  What goes online has the potential to harm your reputation, your career, and the rest of your life.

I realized that if I wasn’t comfortable with allowing my family to see something I’ve posted on Facebook, then I shouldn’t be posting it online at all, and more importantly, perhaps I shouldn’t be doing it in the first place.

Too Too Funny

I probably shouldn't find this as funny as I do, but oh well.

Hello World!

Sorry so sorry that I have not been posting as much as I had been, which is what I would ideally like to be doing.  I hope that you'll be able to find it in your hearts to forgive me.  That being said, I should have a tad bit more free time coming up in the next few days, so I should be able to work on a few of the blog ideas that I've had for awhile.  And don't forget that if you have any ideas for me, let me know!  I'm always open to new ideas and your feedback!

Things have been absolutely crazy for me - this past week I had several tests and papers going on with school, and over the weekend I moved into a different apartment because of all of the roommate issues I'd been having.  I'm finally feeling settled in, and the new living situation already feels so much better then the last one, so things are looking up.  Charlie is having surgery in a few days to have his bladder stones removed, so hopefully he will start feeling better, too.

Thanks again for your patience!
- Allison

P.S.  Don't forget to go follow me on twitter @allisoncomments  and share this blog with your friends!

Tag: My Nail Polish Obsession

Hey Guys!
So today I thought I'd do a tag that has been going around online in different blogs and beauty channels on youtube called the Nail Polish Obsession tag.  Anyone that knows me knows that I am absolutely obsessed with having my nails done and have to re-do them once the polish starts chipping.
1. What's your favorite nail polish company?
I don't have one particular favorite brand of nail polish, but lately I have really been gravitating towards Essie, China Glaze, Revlon, and Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear.
2. Glitter or no glitter?
I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other.  I think the glitter trend looks nice, but I don't have many of the polishes.  The few that I do have, can be a bit of a struggle to take off when I do use them, which is a bit annoying.  Out of the glitter polishes that I own, my favorite is Ruby Pumps by China Glaze.

3. OPI, China Glaze, or Essie?
I currently only own China Glaze and Essie, but really want to try OPI just to see what all the hype is about.  So, I really don't know that I could choose between and of these three brands.  And I definitely like China Glaze and Essie equally.
4. When do you change your nail polish?
At least 2-3 times a week, most likely whenever the polish starts chipping.  But, if I'm lazy or super stressed I'll just let it go for up to two weeks.
5. What's your favorite color on your nails?
Everything!  I love using a variety of colors, which is partly why I change my color so often - so that I can always have a new look and never get bored with one color, but I love having blues, purples, and greens on my nails.
6. Darks or Brights?
I love both darks and brights.  And I don't specificaly stick with what is typically used in specific seasons either.  I'll wear darker colors in summer, and brights in the winter to make things seem more cheery during the darker, more dreary days.
7. What are you wearing on your nails right this moment?
Right now, I'm wearing Revlon's Top Speed First Class (a blue ccolor), and my thumbs and ring fingers have a diagonal stripe in Revlon's Copper Penny.

8. Matte Nails–In or Out?
I'm still undecided about the Matte Nail look.  At times I like it, but I also like my nails to have a high-gloss look to them, so I can't decide.  I think it looks better with some colors then it does with others, but I don't think the matte look looks good with any sort of nail art.
9. French Manicure?
Very Classy!  I love the way a french manicure automatically makes my nails look longer for some reason, even though I can't stand having long nails.
10. Favorite Winter Color?
Though I don't go but what most people classify as "winter" nail colors, I would say any shade of a deep, or navy blue.

Valentine's Day

Although I’m not a big fan of today’s holiday, it appears to be mandatory to acknowledge it in some way or another.  So here it is: HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!!  If you are lucky enough (and I highly stress the lucky part – remember, many are not as fortunate as you and do not have someone special in their life) to have someone to spend the day with, then cherish this day because you never know how short life can be.  I don’t mean to be morbid, but I sincerely believe in living life to the fullest because it can be taken away in the blink of an eye.

However, I have never been lucky enough to have a Valentine.  Poor me.  But before you go ahead and feel sorry for me (and please don’t!) just keep in mind, that for the most part I don’t mind.  The only time I ever really care about being “alone” is when I see other couples being all mushy and lovey right in front of me.  At first it can be cute, and then, not so much.  So please keep the PDA to a minimum today out of respect for those like me!  And we will all thank you for it!

And for all the cynical people out there, or for anyone who just loves finding the absurdities in things, go check this video out:

Bath and Body Works Haul

Thanks to Miss Glamorazzi on YouTube, I’ve become absolutely obsessed with Bath and Body Works 3 Wick Candles.  These candles are absolutely amazing, and they come in all sorts of yummy scents.  If you have any sort of desire to burn candles, or just like stuff that smells super good, I would check the Slatkin & Co. candles out that BBW has.

The downside of the 3-wick candles is the price.  The candles run at $20 bucks a pop, which is pretty pricey, even though they are big and last a long time.  So when BBW has the candles on sale for 2 for $20, I always try and take advantage of it.  Recently, the Bath and Body works had a huge online sale with the candles and other goods, and I cleaned up!

One of the first things I got during the sale was actually the first scent that I’d purchased as a 3-wick candle.  The Mint Chocolate scent is a really nice winter-holiday scent that came out just before this past Thanksgiving.  I was super excited to see it on clearance because I got it super cheap, but I do hope that they release it again next year because I love it so much!

Mint Chocolate

In addition to the older winter scent, I also took advantage of the 2 for $20 candle sale that was going on with the newly release spring scents and purchased 4 new scents.  But, before I bought the scents online, and I would recommend this to anyone that chooses to order the candles online, I went into the store and smelled the scents that I was interested in to be sure that I liked them.  That way I knew what I was getting into before I forked over my precious money!  BBW does seem to have a good return policy, but I didn’t want to have to return anything just because I didn’t like the scents of something because I didn’t do my research before ordering.

My Spring Candle Scents:

Sea Spray
Green Grass

Seaside Escape
White Palm

And I also got one of the new tin candle holders in the new paisley design!  Super cute!

I also got a smaller 4oz candle that is part of the Bath and Body Works aromatherapy line that I’ve wanted to try out for a while now.  I’ve burned it a few times, and it has a pretty strong scent to it, but in a nice way.  The one that I got is the Stress Relief candle with the eucalyptus spearmint scent.  It says that “eucalyptus essential oil clears the mind while spearmint essential oil uplifts.”  I’m not sure how well that’s been working, but either way it smells nice, and it’s a nice little addition to my desk area!

Some other little goodies that I got myself (just because the sales were too good to pass up!) was a new pair of the shea-infused lounge socks, and a new body mist spray in the scent Moonlight Path, which is probably my favorite BBW scent for sprays and lotions.

So far, there hasn't been any of these products that I have not liked, and I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in buying them.  What have you tried?  What are your favorite products from Bath and Body works?

Thoughts on Last Week's Pretty Little Liars Episode

With a new episode of PLL just a day away, I thought I would share with all of you some of my thoughts on the last episode of Pretty Little Liars.

As much as I love this show, one of the things that pops in my head sometimes when things do go horribly for one of the girls, is why don’t they just hand their phones over to the police so that A can be traced.  I know that does defeat the purpose of the show, and based off of what I’ve read in the books the first few books in the series, there is more than one person that is A, but that could have helped Hanna in this situation that she’s in.  And when she stormed out of that exercise or game because of Noel and her stupid step sister, I got so sad for her!  That look on her face just broke my heart!

Hahahaa and I couldn’t help but laugh when Caleb stood up to Jenna!  She totally deserved it!  But I did think that what she was saying was interesting about how the school was filled with phonies and liars and all that.  Because when you think about it, isn’t every place in filled with people like that?  And aren’t we all a little phony and don’t we all have a little bit of a liar in us?

Tiny Tower: My Newest Addiction

One of my latest crazes in Ipod apps has been the game Tiny Tower, which is a game that I discovered through Ingrid and Luke Conrad’s blogs (yup, I’m way too obsessed with their videos!).  Once I found out that they played the game, I just had to check it out, and now I’m hooked.

The basic idea of the game is simple.  You build a tower, and add floors to it and it is your job to keep the businesses within the tower fully functional by stocking them with goods and hiring employees.  The game is a passive game, meaning that it’s similar to games like Farmville, where each task takes a certain amount of time in ‘real life’ to complete.  For instance, if I want to stock my tower’s Diner with hot coffee, it will take 5 minutes to complete that task.  Once the coffee has been stocked, I get a notification telling me it is stocked, and I have to go back to the diner and make the item available to be sold to my customers.

Still not convinced that Tiny Tower is a fun game?  If you like playing any simulation or strategy games like DinerDash or even played any of The Sims games previously, chances are you may like this game.  And, the game is free to download.  So why not give it a try?  You may just end up liking it!

Welcome!

I've noticed that over the past few days I've gotten an increase of people coming to my blog and checking it out.  And I just wanted to take a minute to say WELCOME!!!  Hope you like what you see!!  Please leave me comments on the posts that you like and tell me what you would like to see in future posts!  I do have several of my future posts already planned out, but I am always looking for new ideas and opinions from my readers!

Thanks for checking out my blog and I hope you return soon!

Introducing… Miss Glamorazzi!

If you haven’t already heard of her, then you’re missing out.  If you’ve never seen a video by a YouTube beauty guru, or didn’t even know that they existed, then you’re completely unaware of a whole other side to the internet.

Shortly after my discovery of Luke Conard and his musical genius, I began noticing a girl in many of his vlogs, but didn’t think much of her.  At the time, I wasn’t watching his vlogs in chronological order, so it hadn’t mattered.  Then, after a visit from one of my best friends from high school (where she did my hair and makeup and picked out my clothes all weekend), I became inspired to become more ‘pretty and cute.’  So, I began looking up videos on YouTube and found Miss Glamorazzi’s channel.  After watching several videos, I soon fell in love with her style, and the way she did her tutorial videos, and just her overall bubbly personality.

Eventually, I learned that Miss Glamorazzi, also has a Vlogging channel and began to watch some of her vlogs.  It was then that I learned that she was actually the girl in Luke Conard’s vlogs, and they were extremely good friends.  And now, they are actually dating!  Ingrid, or Miss Glamorazzi, is now currently doing VlogYear, where she posts a vlog video every day in 2012 (and so is Luke!).

If you have any interest at all in makeup, hair, nails, or are interested in learning about new beauty techniques in general, I highly recommend looking at Ingrid’s channel.  Her personality is really great, and she very enjoyable to watch, and she does a great job of covering pretty much every aspect of beauty imaginable in all of her channel’s videos.  If you’re looking for some recommendations of some videos to watch of hers, some of my favorites are the Harry Potter Nail Tutorial (which I’ve done, successfully too!), Makeup Quiz with Luke Conard (even if you’re not into makeup, it’s absolutely hilarious!), Fall Nail Tutorial: Modern French Tips (I’ve also done this, and it looks so cute!), and pretty much any of the haul videos are fun to watch.

Time to Get Personal (Sort of)

Hey Everyone!

I just want to take a minute to say thank you for all of the continued support over the past month.  As I’ve said many times before, blogging is a very new thing to me, and it’s also something that I haven’t been successful with in the past.  But personally knowing that people – both that I know personally and do not know personally – have an interest in reading what I write has been a huge motivator for me.  Literally not a day goes by that I do not think about this blog and all of you that come to read it, and I really do wish that there have not been things going on the past few weeks in my life that have been getting me down and making it a huge challenge for me to even function, let alone write a blog post.

Over the past few weeks, my life has pretty much turned into living hell.  I have been sick with a cold that just will not go away, and Charlie got a urinary infection last week.  In addition to my cold, my chronic migraines have come back last week worse than ever and even the slightest movement of my body causes me pain.  On top of the physical issues, I’ve become extremely behind in all of my classes in school, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid this semester.  My Dad and I got into a huge fight several weeks ago and he is refusing to speak to me.  And while I will be the first to admit we do not have a perfect relationship, he is still my Dad, and there are some things that I just need my Dad for.  And, because all of that and the pressures of being a regular (or semi-regular) 20-year-old aren’t enough, one of my roommates has basically been trying to get me kicked out of my apartment because of Charlie.  What’s even better is that one of my other roommates also has a dog, but that’s ok.  It’s complete discrimination against me, which isn’t exactly even surprising considering we’ve had issues all year, but this has gone too far and is way too extreme.  There is a lot more to both sides then what I’ve just said, but I just wanted to tell you the basics.  The two of us went to a roommate mediation meeting last Friday with two people that work in the apartment leasing office, and I was basically given one more week with Charlie and then this Friday we have to have another roommate mediation meeting, but this time with all 4 of us in the apartment.  But, today I found out that the other 2 roommates haven’t gotten back to the leasing office about going to the meeting so it may not even happen, which could mean more crap for me.  So basically, what this all means, is that one of a few things has to happen: my roommate has to accept Charlie and suck it up, Charlie has to go, my roommate has to move out, or I have to move out.  And right now, things are looking like I’ll be moving out.  So I may be moving in a few days.

So, now that I’ve gotten all of that out and shared it with all of you, I want to get a conversation going with you.  What do you do when you are having a really awful time in your life?  How do you cope?  Leave me a comment below and let’s get a conversation going!

And now I’m going to ask for one more thing… Please share this blog with your friends!  Tell your friends about the blog and tell them to tell their friends!  Comment on the posts!  Let’s generate some more interest in the blog!  And don’t forget to let me know about any topics that you would like to see me blog about!  I really appreciate any feedback that you give me, and it inspires me to keep blogging and do so more frequently!

Thanks again for all the love and support!
Allison

P.S. And.... Sorry to bog you down with questions today, but... I've been debating getting a Twitter account.  If I were to get one, would you, as my readers, follow me???

People Watching in ENG 318

The other day in my Shakespeare's Comedies and Histories class I soon became bored with the fourth day ofRichard II lectures and couldn't help but let my eyes wander the classroom and look upon my fellow classmates.  And I have to admit, I was so amused (and probably just so bored) that I was inspired to create a blog post about my people watching experience.

Let's begin with my professor.  Upon first glance, it would appear the Head of the English Department wears an extraordinary amount of layers of clothing on any given day, layering an assortment of sweaters, vests, blazers, and button-up shirts, all in muted shades of blues and greens.  His outfits are always completed with his favorite accessory - a ring that brings to mind Green Lantern's Power Ring.  Though I've never seen Green Lantern, I can't help but wonder if the professor is going to suddenly demonstrate his amazing super powers and suddenly make this class more entertaining, because at this point that may be the only thing that will make the story of how Bolingbroke gained the British crown remotely interesting.

As we move on to the girl sitting directly in front of me, I can only wonder when showing your bra straps ever became a popular fashion trend.  Is it to show that you're proud of wearing a bra?  Well, WHOOPIE for you!  I'm very proud you're a 'lady' now, but honey, bras are not as fun as little kids imagine them to be.  Let's face it the truth here.  They pinch on the sides, ride up, and 9 times out of 10 just downright uncomfortable.  The only time it is acceptable to show your bra straps is if you're working the burlesque circuit.  If you are, then show 'em proudly.  But if you're in a Shakespeare class, wear a shirt with actual sleeves, and tuck 'em away.  And a side note - please be kind and keep your hair off my desk and my textbook.  Sure, it smells super nice, but I really don't need it all over my belongings.  Next time, I'm shutting your locks in my book and pulling - HARD.

Why is it such a complicated task for girls to cross their legs (or just keep their knees closed) when wearing skirts/dresses?  Which brings me to the girl a few people away from me.  Sure, you've got super slender legs (I'm forever jealous), but you don't have a right to spread eagle in the middle of class when you're wearing a super short dress.  Or anytime for that matter.  You wanna spread?  Do it at home.  Or someplace where I don't have to see it, I really don't care.  I just hope you were wearing underwear.  Either way, I feel bad for the professor who I'm sure may have wanted to burn his eyeballs out after your little display.

To the girl across the room on Twitter and looking at pictures on Google - STOP IT!!!!!  YOU'RE IN CLASS!!!!  (I know jotting down notes to make this post isn't exactly paying attention but I wasn't on a computer tweeting or looking at pictures of Ryan Gosling, I was writing notes for my blog in the margins of my class notes - much more discreet)

And to the kind in the corner of the room sleeping... WAKE UP!  If I have to stay awake, and pretend to listen, then SO DO YOU.

The Vampire Diaries: New Episode Review 2/2/2012

So I’m not sure how many of you are avid Vampire Diaries fans, but I absolutely love that show.  But, I admit I’ve been pretty bad about keeping up with the season since it started up again since the winter hiatus ended.  But, tonight’s episode was the first one that I watched as it aired since the mid-season finale, so I was super excited about it so I thought I’d blog about the show as I watched.  BEWARE OF SPOILERS!!!!!!

So… where to begin…. The last episode definitely made me want to make a push towards “Team Damon” and reminded me how much I miss Elijah!  And man, does anyone else absolutely HATE how much of an ass Stefan is right now in the show?  All I can say is, what the hell did Caroline’s dad DO with that knife in his stomach????????  Is he going to become a vampire now?????? WHAT????

Ok, at least Caroline’s Dad didn’t stick the knife in his own stomach.  That makes more sense.  And yes Alaric, the doctor is crazy and is the one who attacked the ex-boy-toy and Caroline’s Dad.  Send her away!

How does everyone feel about Bonnie’s mother?  Do we trust her?  I’m not sure that I do.  Something about her just… irks me.  I don’t know what it is, but she has this odd look on her face sometimes that just makes me think that she’s not being truthful about everything.

So…. What do we think is in the coffin?!?!?

OMG ELENA GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!  Why would you walk around an empty, dark house that has blood on the walls?????  GET OUT AND GET THE POLICE OR YOUR VAMPIRE BOYFRIEND(S)!!!!!!  AAAAHHHH!!!!! RIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

OMG.  ELENA.  KILLING RIC.  If I was in a house alone, I would have screamed out loud.  But instead I have to be with my roommates who I don’t think would appreciate that.

That was so epic.  First the scene with Caroline and her father had me in tears.  And then Klaus’ other brothers and Rebecca showing up had me literally cheering at the tv.  Sometimes this show is such a roller coaster ride!

OMG.  THE MOTHER WAS IN THE COFFIN.  UNBELIEVABLE.  AND SHE FORGIVES KLAUS.  WHAT THE HELL.  I mean yes, ok, that is a true mother.  But for this show that is not ok.

And oh boy, next week we get to see the originals throw a ball!  Whoop Whoop!
