2014: New Year, New Allison (New Year’s Resolutions)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Before I go off and spend the day with family, I would like to say a quick THANK YOU to all of you for your love and support these past two years.  When I began this blog as a New Year’s resolution (and mainly on a whim) two year’s ago, I never thought it would be something that would last this long, or that would reach the point that is where it as now.  While I still have so much to accomplish here, and so many things I want to do with this blog, I am so blessed to have gained the readership that I have, and can’t thank you enough for that.  I am grateful for every single one of you, and every time you come to this blog to read my writing and hear my thoughts.

For today’s post, I’d like to share my New Year’s resolutions with you all.  This is something that I honestly struggle with each and every year.  To be honest, I hate New Year’s Eve and Day.  It always serves as more of a reminder to me of things I failed at and things I didn’t do, then as a time of celebration of things I accomplished and hope for the future.  But this year, I’m changing that, starting here.

This morning, when watching YouTube videos, I came across BeautyBaby44’s video, “How to be Happy, Love Yourself, & Love Your Life.”  While not everything in that video is entirely possible for me or was relatable to me as Lindsey is younger than me, she inspired me and her messages really hit home with me.  So, taking things I’d already resolved to do in 2014, and this last bit of inspiration, I present to you, my list of resolutions.

1.    Hit the gym 3 times a week: Once again, my commitment to ‘AllisonFit’ is lacking and little progress is being made.  So, I want to get back into the gym a minimum of 3 times a week and get back with my program.  Not only do I feel like not going to the gym wastes money on an unused membership, it also just leaves me with an incomplete goal.  My gym goals are simple:
a)    Get in better physical shape
b)   Lose weight/become a healthy weight
c)    Achieve a better looking body that I am comfortable in

2.    Ditch the sweats & pull myself together: This is definitely going to be a struggle for me.  In making this goal I am not throwing out all of my yoga pants forever or anything along those lines.  What I mean is make more of an effort to ‘dress’ myself everyday in clothing with non-elastic waistbands.  The past few months especially, I have found myself reaching for the easy clothing too much- and not putting effort into my personal appearance.  This is completely fine to do a couple times a week, or every once in a while, but every day, it makes me lose energy and turn me into a lazy, unmotivated person, which in turn, effects everything else in my life.  It’s a simple, and to be honest, pretty stupid thing, but if it makes that much of a difference, then I can make the change.

3.    Land a full-time job: This is something that I definitely need to re-focus my efforts on now that it is a new year.  I’ve had some prospects in the past, but none have worked out.  So, kicking it in high gear once more, and pushing through the work search is a must here.  I know that once I find that full-time job, I’ll have a major confidence boost, and that will be incredible for me.

4.    Financial obligations: Next year, I really want to work on getting all of my finances “under control.” I use the quotes because there are things like my student loans, that no matter how hard I try, I wouldn’t be able to pay off in a year, unless I win the lottery.  But things like paying off credit card bills, creating a strong, definitive budget for spending, things like that, I want a firm plan for and it to be more controlled for.  This is a project that I’ll be working on in the next week to really get it started for the first month of the year.

5.    Journal: This is something that I’ve kind of already started to do, but haven’t been so great at.  I’ve tried it in the past, and have always failed.  But it was recommended to me several times lately, and as someone who loves writing and writing comes very easily and naturally, I thought I’d try it again.  I’ve decided that I’m going to try it using EverNote, and then print out the ‘notes’ as my entries.  This gives me access to work on the entries on my phone, iPad (got one for Christmas!!!) and my computer.  Hopefully, this will help me!

6.    Become a more positive thinker: Lindsey’s video really helped me articulate this goal into what it is now.  Essentially, I want to turn my negative thought process into a more positive one, so that I can become someone that I would want myself, or my friends even, to meet.  I want to be the person that walks into a room and makes a positive impression on people after having a conversation with them.  This is easier said than done- changing one’s entire way of thinking is a pretty big undertaking, but it’s important to me.

7.    Turn envy into ambition: I can’t even count the amount of times in a day that I watch a video on YouTube, talk to friends, or even go outside, and am jealous of someone in one way or another.  But I have decided to turn that envy into a positive thing and focus that energy on achieving my own goals.  Seeing… I don’t know… a purse, that Nikki Phillipi has in one of her videos, may make me jealous, but instead I’ll focus on working hard at my job so that I can have money to get that purse myself.

So there it is guys- my resolutions for 2014!  I hope they gave you some inspiration for your own resolutions or goal making this year.  Let me know in the comments below what your own personal resolutions/goals for the new year are!

Again, thank you all for the support, and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
