Favorites 7/19/12

1.    E.O.S. Lip Balm in Sweet Mint – not only is this lip balm super moisturizing, but it also has a great scent and flavor.  I put this on several times a day, but at the very least, I use it each morning and night and it makes my lips super soft.

2.    Big Sexy Hair’s “Spray and Play Volumizing Hairspray” – this is hands down the best hairspray I’ve ever used.  While it does give you a bit of the ‘crusty’ hair feel if you use excessive amounts, it typically doesn’t do that if you use it sparingly, and it also has a great hold for your hair.

3.    Bath and Body Works “Pink Chiffon” Body Spray – A new discovery for me in the signature collection scents, I’d describe this scent as a floral designed for people who don’t typically like floral scents.  Normally, I can’t do florals, but for whatever reason, I absolutely love this scent just as much as I love Moonlight Path.

4.    NYX eye/eyebrow pencil in 919 Gray – My first time using a NYX product, this one did not disappoint.  I love the way this pencil stays on my super oily lids all day (even without a primer!), and the color is just a gorgeous silver-gray.

5.    Palmers Coconut Oil Formula with Vitamin E Replenishing Hair Milk – Lately I’ve been a bit obsessed with having super soft hair.  I’ve tried several types of deep conditioners and hair treatments, and this is my latest favorite.  Not only does this help soften my ends, it also helps make my hair shiny and frizz-free.

6.    Nars Eye Primer – The absolute best primer I’ve ever tried, Nars is the only primer that can keep my super oily eyelids in check.  With this primer, my eye makeup doesn’t smudge or slide around and can last all day.  Let’s just say this product is a lifesaver!

7.    Revlon LipButter in Peach Parfait – Peach Parfait is my favorite color out of all the LipButters that I’ve tried.  I love the product, it is super moisturizing and the color payoff that you get is incredible.  This color is very similar to my natural lip color, but I find that it just gives me a punch of color without looking to ‘done’ or unnatural.

8.    Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze – One of my new favorite eye products, the color tattoos are a great way to add color to your eyes without spending too much time on your makeup, and Bad to the Bronze is a great neutral color with just a little bit of shimmer to it.

Friday the 13th… Did you Know?

1.    Any month that begins on a Sunday will contain a Friday the 13th, and there is at least one Friday the 13th in every calendar year.
2.     Few people are prepared to marry on Friday the 13th. But in 1913 a pastor in Middletown, New Jersey, decrying the superstition, offered to marry couples free on that date.
3.    Rossini, the composer, regarded Friday as an unlucky day and 13 as an unlucky number. He died on Friday November 13 1868.
4.    One recent survey conducted in Asheville, North Carolina, claimed that 17 million to 21 million people in the United States are affected by Friday the 13th, avoiding taking flights or, in some cases, even getting out of bed.
5.    On Friday October 13 1307, officers of King Philip IV of France carried out mass arrests in a well-coordinated dawn raid that left several thousand Templars - knights, sergeants, priests, and serving brethren - in chains, charged with heresy, blasphemy, various obscenities, and homosexual practices.
6.    One theory is that the Friday the 13th superstitions originated in a Norse myth about 12 gods having a feast in Valhalla. The mischievous Loki crashed the party as an uninvited 13th guest and arranged for Hod, the blind god of darkness, to shoot Baldur, the god of joy and gladness, with a mistletoe-tipped arrow. Baldur was killed and the Earth was plunged into darkness and mourning as a result.
7.    Researchers in 1993 found that on Friday the 13th fewer people were driving than normal, because of superstition, yet there were more transport accidents even though there were fewer vehicles on the road.
8.    One view is that the Friday the 13th taboo stems directly from the Bible. Thirteen ate at The Last Supper and so that number was seen as unlucky; and Christ was crucified on a Friday, so that day was regarded as fatal.
9.    In 1908, a senator from Oklahoma defied superstition by introducing 13 bills on Friday the 13th.

Review: Big Bang Theory Season 4, Episode 3 “The Zazzy Substitution”

For those of you that don’t know, The Big Bang Theory is one of my current favorite tv shows, and I own all of the seasons on dvd.  So, for today’s post, I thought I’d review one of my favorite episodes.  This episode also has a special place in my heart because it got me through the scary plane ride when I was flying to London to begin my study abroad program there last summer (I can’t believe that was a year ago!!!)

To start, can I just say how hilarious it is when everyone tells Raj incorrect information about America? Aka The Rocky Mountains are in Philadelphia

How cute are those cats??? And I absolutely LOVE the names!!!

For those of you unfamiliar with the show, this episode is the epitome of why I love the Sheldon character, and why Jim Parsons is completely deserving of the Emmys that he has won for his work on the show.  Sheldon is the character that has the most unusual quirks, yet you can’t help but love him for it, and when Amy attacks his work, you want to lash out at her in Sheldon’s defense.  At the beginning of the show, I never thought I would grow to like this character, but now Sheldon is the reason I watch the show.

All I have to say is “Here’s your cat… and here’s your $20.”

Hey Everyone!

Just thought I’d do a quick update post.  The past few days have been quite crazy – we currently have no power at my house because of a storm, and a few days ago I ended up in the hospital, and my family is also in the process of adopting a dog!

So this power outage – not fun.  Not only am I bored out of my mind, but it is also extremely hot out and we have no AC.  Not to continue complaining about not having power, but I can’t imagine not having any ever.  Being without for a little while definitely makes you appreciate it when you have it.

And then there’s my thrilling hospital adventure.  Basically, I ended up with a severe migraine that not only caused head pain, but had me dizzy, throwing up, and unable to stand.  My Mom took me to the hospital after speaking with my doctor, and thus began our 9-hour hospital fun.  Did I mention that I don’t handle hospitals or needles well?  Let’s just say that it was probably the worst night of my life.  Never have I felt so horrible from a migraine before.  I get migraines quite frequently, but this was a whole new level of extreme.  By the time I got home it was past 7am.  So basically I pulled an all-nighter in the emergency room.  Such fun!  I’m feeling much better now, but I’ll admit that I’m nervous that next time I get a migraine it’ll be just as bad.  Let’s just hope that doesn’t happen.

And the last bit of news – the dog!  Ever since Charlie became part of our family, my Dad and brother have wanted another dog that is bigger and more playful.  Not that they don’t like Charlie, but as he is older he is not as active as they would like.  So, after much debating and searching I found a Beagle that would be a great choice.  We are now in the process of being approved by the shelter for adoption and once that happens we should be getting the dog!

So that’s it!  That’s my major news!  Hope everything is well with you guys!  Talk to you soon!
